Rules For Sacrifice

Posted by Kim Dunson on

Last week, we learned about the tabernacle...a special place that God instructed the Israelites to build so that He could be close to and dwell with His people. However, this tabernacle was only temporary. As part of His plan to save sinners, God would send Jesus to ‘tabernacle’ or dwell with His people on earth.

Once the tabernacle was completed, God gave Moses and the Israelites rules about how they should live and worship. These rules showed the Israelites what it looked like to be holy - like God (Leviticus 19:2). However, God’s people could never keep God’s rules perfectly. So God made ways for the people to be forgiven when they sinned. The people would offer many sacrifices to cover their sins. But these sacrifices pointed to a better plan. God sent His Son, Jesus, to be the perfect sacrifice. Jesus took the punishment for our sins on the cross. Jesus forgives our sins, once and for all.
